Components of well-being indices

The Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare (ISEW) was introduced in 1989.
Below are ways other groups have adopted its fundamental principles and applied it to specific situations.
The Genuine Progess Indicator built on the ISEW.
The Pembina Institute roughly doubled the factors and applied them to Alberta, Canada.
The UK Friends of the Earth applied the Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare to the United Kingdom.
An Australian ISEW
The Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment researched and published an ISEW.

Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare (ISEW)
Daly, Cobb & Cobb

Some of the entries below are derived from the ISEW introduced by economist Herman Daly and theologian John B. Cobb Jr. in their 1989 book "For The Common Good: Redirecting the Economy toward Community, the Environment, and a Sustainable Future." Their index, compiled with Clifford Cobb, is explained in an appendix starting on page 401. An overview table with a time series of values from 1950 to 1986 is found on page 418. (The Genuine Progress Index listed below is an updated close variation that Clifford Cobb helped produce in 2004). The appendix explains each of the components and contains tables deconstructing these components into their constituent parts and listing values in times series for each of these constituents.
